Schauspielhaus Zürich Corporate Identity
The new identity for Schauspielhaus Zürich begins with the theatre’s own visual history. Together with Salzmann Gertsch, we placed Pfauen Plakat at its centre: a custom typeface inspired by early theatre invitations and the lettering of the historic Pfauen entrance, mastered by Maxitype.
We developed a typographic system that can change scale, density and character across the programme. Pfauen Plakat gives the institution a recognisable voice while adapting to very different productions, directors and subjects.
Typography provides the common structure across season books, posters, programmes, campaigns, digital communication and the website. Each format has its own demands, but all speak through the same underlying language.
The identity reaches into the building and the city through signage, vehicles and everyday communication. Its references remain visibly rooted in the theatre’s past, while the system itself is designed for the changing programme of the present.
